Akshay Oberoi is poised to leave audiences stunned with what promises to be one of the most powerful and psychologically layered performances of his career in the upcoming film 2014. Stepping into the shoes of a deeply complex antagonist, the actor ventures into a dark and emotionally turbulent territory that explores the fragile boundaries between conviction, conflict, and morality.

Celebrated for his versatility across genres, Akshay Oberoi approached the role with remarkable dedication, immersing himself in extensive research to understand the intricate psychology behind radicalisation, ideological conditioning, anger, and fractured belief systems. Determined to portray the character with authenticity and nuance, he spent months studying real-life behavioural patterns, emotional triggers, and the internal struggles that often drive individuals towards extremism.
The role demanded far more than a physical transformation. It required an intense emotional and psychological investment to comprehend how fear, manipulation, loneliness, and misplaced conviction can gradually reshape a person’s moral compass. Sources close to the production reveal that Akshay worked meticulously on his body language, emotional restraint, and psychological detailing, crafting a character whose menace lies as much in his mind as in his actions.
Reflecting on the experience, Akshay shared, “2014 has undoubtedly been one of the most emotionally demanding projects of my career. Playing an antagonist is never about appearing intimidating on screen. I wanted to understand what truly drives a person towards darkness — the emotional wounds, the conditioning, the rage, and the ideological influences that shape their choices.”
He further added, “What fascinated me most was the moral ambiguity. Characters like these rarely view themselves as villains. In their minds, they are defending a belief, fighting for a cause, or responding to personal pain. Capturing that complexity was incredibly important to me.”
While the character required significant physical preparation, Akshay admits the mental journey was even more exhausting. “Living in such a disturbed emotional space can be challenging. But roles like these push you beyond your comfort zone and force you to confront uncomfortable truths about human nature. That challenge is exactly what drew me to the film,” he said.
