People enjoyed my bhajans in multiple languages in Chicago: Abhijit Ghoshal

Abhijit Ghoshal, who is a singer to reckon with,has made a name in the genre of devotional music. Recently the singer was invited by the Bengali association in Greater Chicago for a Bollywood  concert and the crowds were mesmerised by his performance. Later, he was also invited by a Jain temple to perform and he sang bhajans in Gujarati and many other languages. All of these were his original compositions and the singer got a huge round of applause.

He said, “I received a lot of love from the NRIs in the US. Although being a Bengali, I was singing in many other languages and not once they found it to be different. In fact, they enjoyed it so much that the association invited me to come in the future too. Also, versatility is important and so I felt that singing in multiple languages helps me connect with people.”

Abhijit has won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 11 times. Ghoshal is now an acclaimed singer in Bollywood and he performs in 14 different languages. He has worked with popular artists like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kavita Krishnamurti, Sadhna Sargam, Shaan, Louiz Banks and many more.

A versatile singer, Ghoshal, who has successfully sung Bollywood songs, Geets n Ghazals is now a name in the Bhajan segment- the devotional genre of music. He has sung soulful bhajans of Sai, Kabeer, Tulsi, Durga, Kali, Nirgun, and Sufi. Ghoshal has also launched his new album based on Sai Bhajans, ‘Sainath Aao’ last year.

Celebritries attended Subhash Ghai’s birthday dinner

Meghna Ghai Puri, President of Whistling Woods International and daughter of filmmaker Subhash Ghai, held a surprise birthday dinner for her father Subhash Ghai on January 24th after the 11th convocation ceremony of Whistling Woods International.

212 graduates passed out from Institute yesterday with degrees and diplomas in film & media arts in association with Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Highlights of the convocation was when Dharmendra and Filmmaker Govind Nihalani were honoured with the Institute’s Maestro awards for their legendary contribution to Indian cinema. Vijay Singh CEO Fox Star delivered an insightful keynote address to the graduates on their future role as flag bearers of the film industry.

The evening was followed by a surprise Birthday party hosted by his daughter Meghna and was attended by faculty heads of Whistling Woods and industry icons like Neeta lulla. Prahalad Kakkar Sabbas Joseph Manmohan Shetty, Pradeep Guha, Randhir Kapoor Ramesh Taurani and artistes who have closely been associated with Ghai, including Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jackie Shroff,  Ronit Roy  Shreyas Talpade, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik,  Sukhvinder Singh, Satish Kaushik, Alvira, Atul Agnihotri and other prominent guests.

When contacted Ghai admitted, “I feel blessed and humbled that all my friends, the faculty of WWI & stars came to shower their love and affection for me, on my birthday. That inspires you to further your life with joy and courage. That surely keeps me feeling better and younger.”

Abhijit Ghoshal: I am touched by Annu Kapoor’s depth of knowledge

Lately Music Wizard Abhijit Ghoshal was part of Jashn-e-Rekhta, a three day festival which is celebrated annually in Delhi and it is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Urdu language, literature and culture.

Here Abhijit shared stage with actor Annu Kapoor. The performance was at Major DhyanChand national stadium New Delhi,where Abhijit and Parul Mishra were singing to the storyline narrated by Annu Kapoor.

Everyone knows that Annuji is a stalwart when it comes to an in depth knowledge of Indian music and films.He also sings very well. Abhijit was highly impressed by his impromptu presentation before thousands of music connoisseurs present there.

He said, “I sang some of the most popular Bollywood hits of Majrooh Sultanpuri Saab and loved the way the huge audience applauded by joining in with their vocals. And just like me, the viewers were impressed by Annuji’s deep knowledge of any subject. He knows the history, relevance and is able to keep viewers connected with artists like us through his knowledge. I am happy and honored that I got to share the stage with Annu Kapoor.”

Meanwhile, the event had popular celebs like Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Vishal Bhardwaj and many more.

Garima Yagnik is back with her second single, ‘Naina Barse Kyun’

After the massive hit of her first single, singer and actor Garima Yagnik, niece of legendary singer Alka Yagnik, is back with her second single “Naina Barse Kyun”. It is a Hindi dance-pop track, composed by Naresh-Anand, and directed by Karan-Aryaman Marwaha.

‘Naina Barse Kyun’ is a depiction of a girl in the initial stages of heartbreak where it is ironic yet comedic about the situation. She is surrounded by the voices in her head as well as those of her friends, wondering whether the heartbreak is to be celebrated or lamented over. In her imagination, the end of her relationship is a blessing, however, there may be a part of her that wants to go back to the way she was.

Talking about the launch of the song, an excited Garima said, “This is my second release and is excited more than ever. It is challenging and there are a lot of expectations when you have such a stalwart in your family. But I have a different style of singing and voice. This track is very close to my heart and I am sure the audience will fall in love with it too. This has been a fabulous journey till now and teaming up with Karan again is a great experience.”

Right after the big launch, the singing diva is heading to Delhi as she currently working on WizCraft’s “Balle Balle” musical comedy, directed by Viraf Sarkari at Kingdom of Dreams, Delhi. Her other theatre endeavors include “Medha and Zoombish” directed by Hidayat Sami at Prithvi Theatre. She has been singing and acting since childhood and her previous work with Times Music includes “Meherbani”. She has previously worked with Karan-Aryaman Marwaha on the short film “Punjab”, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Abhijit Ghoshal to venture into devotional music now

Music reality shows have discovered gems in playback singing and Abhijeet Ghoshal who has won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 11 times is no longer just a winner of a reality show. He had left the competition voluntarily and later went on to pursue a career in music. For someone who left his secure job to pursue music, Abhijeet has come a long way. He says, “Winning 11 times, and thereafter leaving the contest undefeated, that too voluntarily, was a wonderful experience. I would like to emphasise that Saregamapa did not have this SMS voting system then. I was judged by the virtuosos of classical as well as film music of the country like Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Naushad Saab, Ustad Rashid Khan. So, it was no mean feat.”

Abhijit is now, an acclaimed singer in Bollywood and has sung Jashn Hai Jeet Ka from the Salman Khan and Ajay Devgun starer London Dreams under Shanker Ehsaan Loy. He sings in 14 different languages. He has worked with Louis Banks,  Kavita Krishnamurti, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, and many more. A versatile singer, Ghoshal, who has successfully sung Bollywood songs, Ghazals, Sufi music, is now planning to make a foray in the Bhajan genre of music.

In his concerts under the name Bhajan Pravaah he sings soulful bhajans from Sai, Kabeer, Tulsi, Durga, Kali, Nirgun, and Sufi. Most of these are fresh soul touching and rhythmic compositions.  Ask the singer what drove him to singing bhajans and he says, “Lataji (Mangeshkar) has a vast repertoire of bhajans. Even Manna Dey used to sing beautiful bhajans. Anup Jalota sings soulful bhajans too. There is a certain peace and contentment I get when I sing bhajans. Bhajans are spiritual and connect with the soul. Also, each festival has a bhajan associated with it. I feel a deep connect with God when I get an opportunity to sing a beautiful bhajan.”

Abhijit will soon launch his new album based on Sai Bhajans, ‘Sainath Aao’, in the second week of August. The launch will see the stalwarts of soulful music like Anup Jalota,  Kavita Krishnamurty attend it.

Abhijit wants to work with many composers in the future and feels there is no shortcut to success. He says, “I have huge faith in karma. I believe one needs to focus on one’s work and leave the rest to God.”
