Main Monica (MM) has been loved by the audience. Social media is filled with positive feedback around this thriller comedy streaming on Amazon Prime. Produced and written by Paromita Ganguly, Amber Wasi and Ranjeet Chitrakaar, MM is presented by Arre studios. Piyush Kumar, who plays the role of Jassi in the series, talks about the positive feedback around the series.
“I am so thrilled to share that the audience is lauding my work in ‘Main Monica’ and loving the show. They have found the story unique and gripping, something they haven’t seen in a long time,” he sounds happy.
Audiences are expecting a second season and there is already a strong buzz about it. “Season 1 ended on a high note where the audience was left wanting for more. I am sure Season 2 will have an even bigger buzz. I wish to get back on floors to recreate the magic for Season 2 real soon,” he says that it would be amazing if Shah Rukh Khan entered the OTT space with Main Monica.
The impact of OTT can’t be ignored. Every actor now wants to do OTT projects. The actor explains why.
“The Indian audience is “binge” watching OTT content. That’s how much they love it. OTT is able to draw the audience’s interest because it is giving us real stories, told in a cinematic way, available to watch in every household across the country. Shows are being translated into multiple regional languages and therefore have a far wider reach than ever before. It’s a hot topic of discussion in every house party, at least in the metro cities. The storytelling format of OTT shows allow actors to showcase their full potential & reveal the character layer by layer, which I feel is most challenging yet exciting for any artist,” Piyush Kumar adds.
Many feel OTT is giving a platform to talent, but actors are not becoming stars via this medium. “The characters in OTT shows are real people. They belong to our own society. Audience feels as if we are telling ‘their’ life stories, which is what draws their attention the most. They are falling in love with the characters we are portraying. I believe and am so happy that talented actors are getting their due credit. I know I have done my job well when a stranger calls out to me as “Hey Jassi” and not “Hey Piyush”,” he says.
Stardom has its own journey. Some get it sooner, others take time. “Trends come and go. Stories live forever. That’s what I believe,” he adds.
