Before making his mark as an actor with his film, Veere Di Wedding, Ishwak Singh has been part of Asmita Theater Group and featured in several popular plays including Mahesh Bhatt’s The Last Salute. His wide range of performances has been hugely appreciated by theater critics and audience.
The talented actor, who won huge appreciation for his latest commercial directed by Imtiaz Ali, was quite excited to return to theatre and was a part of a popular play, Court Martial, which was showcased on last Saturday at Sathaye College.
Written by Swadesh Deepak, widely recognised as one of the finest playwrights in the country after the publication of Court Martial, the play hits hard the roots of casteism in the Indian Army.
Ishwak, who has been associated with Court Martial for more than eight years and has done multiple productions of the play, portrays the role of Col. Surat Singh.
Court Martial has been staged close to 2000 times in India by well-known Indian theater directors Ranjeet Kapoor, Arvind Gaur, Usha Ganguly, Abhijeet Choudhary. It has also been translated into several Indian languages.
Ishwak has featured in several mainstream and critically-acclaimed films including Raanjhanaa and Tamasha, and also won acclaim for his role in Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh.
