After winning the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for his Netflix special Vir Das: Landing, and riding high on the success of his latest Netflix release Fool Volume, Vir Das is ready to script yet another milestone. The acclaimed comedian, actor, and writer is set to become the first-ever Indian artist to headline his own residency run at New York’s iconic Lincoln Center Theater with his new show Hey Stranger. The two-week showcase will run from October 29 to November 9, 2025.

The Lincoln Center has been a cultural home to some of the world’s most legendary artists. Indian greats like Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Bismillah Khan, Pandit Ananda Gopal Bhose, and M.S. Subbulakshmi have all graced its stage. Internationally, it has hosted the best of music, theatre, and art. Now, Vir Das joins this extraordinary lineage, bringing Indian comedy center stage to one of the world’s most prestigious venues.
For Hey Stranger, Vir is collaborating with Tony Award-nominated director Moritz von Stuelpnagel and Seaview Productions—the powerhouse behind Broadway and Off-Broadway triumphs such as A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Tony Award-winner), Slave Play (with a record 12 Tony nominations), George Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck, and Adam Driver’s Hold On to Me Darling.
Speaking about the announcement, Vir shared, “It’s been a lifelong dream to do a residency, and to do it at the Lincoln Center is surreal. Comedy may be different from classical music or theatre, but at its heart, it’s about connection—reaching across cultures to find common ground. With Hey Stranger, I want to give audiences laughter, reflection, and a reminder that we’re not so different after all.”
With this residency, Vir Das doesn’t just represent Indian comedy—he’s reshaping its global narrative. Hey Stranger promises to be more than just a show; it’s set to be a historic cultural moment that places Indian stand-up firmly on the world stage.
