Vir Das all set to debut a unique unscripted homegrown comedy special in ‘Inside Out’

The one thing that remained constant during the lockdown is Vir Das’ virtual shows which ensured that his fans had a smile on their faces. Between March and June, the actor-comedian did close to 30 shows for which his fans from across the globe bought tickets. The proceeds from each show were directed to different charity organisations. In a new move, Vir has collated excerpts and behind the scenes from these very shows and created a comedy special titled – Inside Out, which is the first-of-its-kind lockdown crowd work show that is completely unscripted. This makes him the first Indian comedian to shoot a comedy special during the lockdown. The special is a conversational series and it was an impromptu comedy that rose from the chats he had with the audiences during his virtual shows.

The international audiences will pay a minimum USD 1 per viewing whereas his Indian audiences will pay INR 30 per viewing. Those who wish to contribute more can, as the income from the special will be donated towards NGOs working towards Covid Relief.

Speaking about it, Vir said, “Week on week the encouraging response kept pouring in and we knew there was enough material to make a special. We recorded all the virtual shows in advance and it’s turned out quite interesting. I decided to talk about our collective fears and give it a light touch. In such times when we don’t know when we can do our next physical gig or shoot for a special, we thought this was a good way of changing with the changing times. This isn’t the new normal honestly but this is a novel alternative, for now.”

While the Government officials are doing their best, it is also the duty of the citizens to step up in whatever ways they can. A bunch of us came together and Manish (Mundra) has been a big help through the process guiding us to those in need.”

Vir Das takes to writing Hindi comedy for the first time

The multi-talented Vir Das who has almost explored all the realm of entertainment always keeps the card up to his sleeves to surprise his audience period. After being crowned the first Indian to tour the entire world with his comedy stand up act The Boarding Das is all set with another chapter showcasing his dark side. Yes, Vir will be seen in a dark thriller with a splash of comedy series Hasmukh co-produced by Nikhil Advani and directed by Nikhil Gonsalves. This would be the first time Vir will be seen in such an intense genre series. The icing on the cake is Vir has conceptualised and co-written the story and the script.

Vir over the years has been associated with comedy stand up acts, comedy films and gained popularity out of it. Other than performing on comedy acts he also writes his own lines and scripts. This would be the first time Vir got himself associated with a script that is so intense, dark and belongs to a genre opposite to what he has done so far. Vir has written a multitude of scripts for live and scripted shows in the English language, but writing Hasmukh was challenging for him is the first time he has written dark humour comedy in Hindi. It drained him completely since he didn’t want the script fall flat on completion. He took his time off from other projects and went into isolation to write the script. It would be a delight to see Vir performing on his own script an interesting tale of the dark world one of the toughest thing Vir ever did in his career.
