Bandra Film Festival (BFF), presented by FilmKaravan, continues to champion independent cinema by creating meaningful spaces where filmmakers and audiences can connect, collaborate, and celebrate storytelling. Through a blend of curated on-ground screenings across Mumbai and a growing digital presence on YouTube, the festival has evolved into a thriving platform for emerging and established voices alike. Since its inception, BFF has hosted nearly 24 screenings at renowned venues such as Soho House Mumbai, Woodside Inn, and The Habitat, while showcasing over 180 films across its physical and digital platforms.
Continuing its commitment to inclusive and community-driven programming, Bandra Film Festival will host a special Pride Month screening at Woodside Inn, Bandra, on June 15, 2026. The showcase will feature acclaimed films including The Sailor and the Chef by Ashish Sawhny, Sunday by Arun Fulara, and The Contagious Cuddle by Deon Demamount. The event aims to celebrate diverse voices while encouraging conversations around identity, representation, and contemporary storytelling.
Reflecting on the initiative, filmmaker Ashish Sawhny shared that The Sailor and the Chef beautifully chronicles the inspiring journey of Piyush and Sushil, a couple who found love nearly three decades ago in a time when queer visibility was limited. Their story of resilience, companionship, and self-expression through dance has touched audiences across generations.

Actor and filmmaker Abhay Deol, who serves on the festival’s advisory board, emphasized the importance of providing independent filmmakers with platforms where their work can be discovered and appreciated. He noted that BFF has become a valuable space for nurturing talent and strengthening the connection between creators and audiences.

Over the years, the festival has showcased celebrated works by filmmakers such as Shonali Bose, Amit Kumar, Alankrita Shrivastava, Keith Gomes, and Vikas Chandra, while also supporting promising new voices including Rajat Kariya, Pooja Tolani, Kinshuk Surjan, and National Award-winning filmmaker Varun Tandon.
According to FilmKaravan founder Sanjay Bachani, Bandra Film Festival was envisioned as more than a screening platform. Its growing success reflects an increasing appetite for independent cinema and meaningful conversations, fostering a vibrant community where stories, ideas, and creative voices can truly flourish.
