Anshuman Jha teams up with debutant director Ashish Dubey for Welcome to Agra, a timeless love story set in 2000 Agra. Produced by Mad Films, the film celebrates pure romance against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal.
Anshuman Jha and Sarah Hopkins starer Welcome to Agra, helmed by debutant filmmaker Ashish Dubey, is a heartfelt, old-school love story set in the picturesque city of Agra at the turn of the millennium in 2000. The film revolves around the unique romance between a cycle rickshaw driver and a British tourist, capturing the essence of love in its purest form.
Ashish Dubey, a native of Uttar Pradesh, has honed his craft in Chennai, assisting South Indian cinema stalwarts like N. Lingusamy. Now, he returns to his roots to create a Hindi film that celebrates timeless love. Speaking about the project, Ashish shared, “Agra is the mecca of love, and I’ve dreamed of making this film for years. Working with Anshuman Jha Sir has been a long-standing wish since his debut in LSD. This film showcases the raw, unadulterated power of genuine love with the Taj Mahal, the ultimate symbol of love, as its backdrop. We hope to revive audiences’ love for classic romance, which I feel has faded in today’s modern lifestyle.”
Actor Anshuman Jha, who stars as the rickshaw driver, expressed his excitement, saying, “I believe in the transformative power of love. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a quintessential love story like DDLJ or Jab We Met. This film stands out with its unique pre-social media setting, focusing on a time when connections were genuine and heartfelt. Playing a rickshaw driver in Uttar Pradesh has been a dream role for me, and I’m thrilled to bring this character to life.”
Produced by Mad Films, Welcome to Agra begins filming in late January, following Anshuman Jha completion of his action film Lakadbaggha 2 in December. The actor plans to take a brief holiday with his triathlete wife and nine-month-old daughter before diving into this deeply romantic project. With its promise of pure, clean romance, Welcome to Agra aims to rekindle audiences’ love for classic storytelling, bringing them back to the theaters for a truly timeless experience.
