Actor Varunn Jain, who plays the role of Sanjay in Anil V Kumar’s Dhappa, is happy with how the series is being welcomed by the viewers. The actor says that people are relating to the story.
“I am getting a great response. This content is quite different and relatable as I come from a small town so I immediately connected to the story. So, I decided to do it,” he says.
Talking about how the audience is connecting to his character, he says, “Love stories in small towns are really different then you see in big cities, so a person from a small city can easily relate to it and if you are from metro city, it will be a visual treat to watch humorous love stories of small towns. I am playing a very different character in Dhappa. It was like a challenge for me as I have never portrayed this kind of role onscreen and we haven’t shown any vulgarity, that’s the beauty. I am sure many people in small towns hold back their emotions because of the fear of family, relatives and society. After watching this I hope they will get the courage to speak up for themselves and take a stand in their relationship.”
The actor says that working with director-producer Anil V Kumar is a dream. “I have heard a lot about Anil sir and finally I got a chance to work with him. He is a very senior director and producer. Being on the sets is a learning process for an actor, to work with such an experienced, talented director. He makes all his actors very comfortable. It was amazing working with him,” he says.
Meanwhile, Varunn Jain adds that the advent of OTT has changed a lot. “OTT platforms have changed the entire scenario. Now we get to watch such amazing content and it has definitely increased the scope for actors as there are so many OTT platforms and so much content is coming out. I don’t think there is a difficulty for TV actors to get into OTT. If you are really good at your craft anyone would love to work with you,” he says.
Ask him what kind of characters he wants to play, and he says, “I would love to play intense characters on screen. I love thrillers so I don’t mind doing a thriller. In fact, it could be a positive one or an intense one or a negative one because it shows your versatility as an actor.”
