Ali Fazal reunites with the team Mirzapur 2 as they begin final work on the new season

Looks like Amazon Prime is all set to release their tentpole show -Mirzapur; whose second season was due to hit the platform this year. After the cast posted a series of photos on their social media announcing the restart of their dubbing sessions, recently leading man Ali Fazal posted a picture of the cast together. Working remotely all through the lockdown, this is the first time the cast reunited in full strength for the dub session. Besides key members of the cast including Shweta Tripathi Sharma, the actors were also joined by people from the production team. The actors ensured that they practiced social distancing all through.

Speaking about it, Ali said, “We had dubbed a few episodes before the lockdown so we picked up mid-way. It was great to be back because this has been an unusually long break. We shot for the show long back so it took us some time getting back into the groove. Each actor usually comes individually but the one time we met was when our times clashed. The studios are on point about their hygiene so it allows one artist at a time. So we walked into a pre-sanitized studio. The instructions are given on the other side. Dubbing is a system that was already an isolated job.”

One of the platform’s most loved shows, the actor says that the pressure is now building. “We were always the underdogs and there was always immense love from the audience. But now the show is considerably delayed because of the circumstances posed by the pandemic. Through the lockdown, fans have been after us. We can feel the eyes on us and I hope the audience is a little generous. Such great content has come out in the last year that I will be very proud of being part of Amazon’s legacy.”

Though the fear of the pandemic looms large on most especially after two A-list stars of the industry-tested positive with COVID. But Fazal says there’s no scope for fear. “I am rather happy about going to work. We cannot fall prey to fear or that’s the end of us as we know it. Nothing can come out of fear. We need to be smart, healthy, and simply cautious.”

Richa Chadha joins hands with Arati Kadav for a sci-fi short film titled 55kms/sec shot virtually on phone

Not long ago, the idea of shooting on an iPhone was considered inventive. With the world reeling under the ramifications of a global lockdown, it’s become a great jugaad for creative professionals, who have taken to shooting short films and shows as a way of expressing their creativity. Arati Kadav, best known for her film Cargo that opened to some stellar reviews after its screening at MAMI last year has shot a short film with multiple actors virtually, while locked down at home. Kadav reached out to Richa Chadha to play a prominent role in her short. The actress known to favor experiments was excited to collaborate with Arati, as the script was unique. On her part, Kadav is known as the solo working director currently who has a penchant for science fiction, has created a novel film titled 55 kms/sec about living in a world that is on the edge. The title itself is indicative of the film’ a subject, believes the director.

Speaking about it, Kadav says, “While we are all bracing ourselves for the new normal, we made this short film as a fun exercise. It was a great idea and my team and I saw it as a way of continuing to work to cheer ourselves up. I met some spectacular and fantastic people on our virtual set. We are happy that we all could remotely come together for something that was a warm, beautiful, humbling, and unifying experience.”

Chadha, who headlines the project, tells us, “Arati is an engineer turned filmmaker. She has an interesting vision and is aces at science fiction stuff, as well as portraying the human connections. I loved collaborating with her and the actor Mrinal Dutt. This was a challenging shoot as we had to do everything ourselves, from hair and makeup to recording sound but it was well worth the effort. I am happy that we were able to create something thought-provoking and beautiful even in these grim times.”

Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Dia Mirza conclude their initiative on after having sent out 20000 plus PPE kits to frontline health workers across the country

After sending 20,000+ kits sent out to over 50 hospitals across the country, Bollywood celebrities Vidya Balan, Ali Fazal, Dia Mirza, Sonakshi Sinha, Vir Das, Richa Chadha, Pooja Hegde amongst others, concluded their initiative. Inspired by Manish Mundra, the PPE drive was spearheaded by Atul Kasbekar and was done in partnership with Tring India to protect the frontline workers who are fighting the war against COVID 19.

In a video, Vidya, Sonakshi, Ali, Dia cricketer Harbhajan Singh, commentator Harsha Bhogle representing their colleagues sent a powerful thank you message to the doctors who are on the frontline ensuring the rest of the country is safe in the confines of their homes. From KEM Hospital and Cama in Mumbai, the initiative has reached other cities like Hyderabad, Ratnagiri, Lucknow, Pune, Indore, Punjab and Delhi.

Dedicating the video to the doctors and other officials at the frontline, the actors in a powerful message heralded them as the real-time heroes.

Kasbekar says, “While all of us are safe at home under lockdown, it’s important that we celebrate them today and value them for the incredible and strenuous work they are putting in for over 100 days now. Our entire perception of heroism has altered in these times. When we started off the initiative, it was the need of the hour. While the Government officials are doing their best, it is also the duty of the citizens to step up in whatever ways they can. A bunch of us came together and Manish (Mundra) has been a big help through the process guiding us to those in need.”

Richa Chadha-Ali Fazal spill the beans on their love story

They could be two of the film industry’s most outspoken people but Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal have been fairly tight lipped about their love story. So we know that they met on the sets of Fukrey in 2012 and then made an announcement at the world premiere of Victoria and Abdul in Venice in 2017. In a cover shoot for Brides Today’s July 2020 issue, the actors gave out the details of their story. Though initially intended as the first magazine cover post wedding, the pandemic has postponed their wedding plans for the year.

Speaking to the magazine, Richa recounted the first time she knew this was love. “We were at my house watching Chaplin – the 1992 British-American biographical comedy drama starring Robert Downey Jr. I was happy to see him enjoy the movie and was grateful to have found someone with similar tastes. That is when I said, “This is really sweet, I love you.” to him. It took him three months to say I love you back to me.”

But Ali has a special reason why he loves his Kuki (as he affectionately addresses Richa). She is Ms Butterfingers, he says fondly. “She thinks I fell in love with her only because of her clumsiness – and it surely is one of the reasons. She is as clumsy as it gets. If she is eating, there will be glasses spilling , food will be all over the place, and cutlery will definitely fall. Her most embarrassing clumsy moment was in Venice. It was at a fine dining event and Judi Dench was sitting at the next table. Suddenly a bean went flying over – of course, it was from Richa’s plate. She calls it her Pretty Woman moment!”

But of all the glorious proposal stories you’ll ever hear, here’s the most heartwarmingly romantic woman. On being asked how Ali proposed, Richa said, “He had planned a romantic dinner on a small, secluded island in the Maldives. I thought it was for my birthday – I didn’t suspect a thing. We had finished eating and were sipping on champagne when Ali, being his spontaneous self, asked me to marry him. He didn’t go down on his knee, nor did he have a ring but that’s all right. After that he took a 10- minute long nap on the sand – I think it was because he may have been stressed about the proposal!”

After decades of celebrating stories of elaborate proposals, here’s a couple that committed to a lifetime of companionship with a simple promise of being there through thick and thin. Richa quotes Javed Akhtar’s iconic line, “Hamari dosti itni pakki hai ki shaadi bhi iska kuch nahi bigaad payi…”

Netflix’s House Arrest crew got robbed

The hassle that goes behind making a film is unreal, and people involved in the making of a film are always sporty to overcome such hassles. When it comes to making a film there are people beyond actors and directors who are actively a part of this journey, there are people who make the smallest things happen which may later be a part of a bigger picture. Costume assistants, spot boys, and even the carpenters play a big role when it comes to transporting trunks of clothes from one location to the other or even fixing props on sets.

During the shooting of Netflix’s upcoming film ‘House Arrest’ starring Ali Fazal, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Jim Sarbh and Barkha Singh, the production manager along with a few helpers had visited the market to purchase trunks for the costumes. During the errand of buying and carrying the trunks, a biker sped his way through and snatched one of the spot boy’s cell phones. A similar incident took place with the costume assistant, one day after the shooting the assistant was traveling back home in an auto where she came across two thieves on either side of the auto who stole her purse and vanished in no time.

The star cast was really furious and they immediately filed a complaint to the nearest police station.

House Arrest releases exclusively on Netflix on 15th November 2019, in 190 countries at the same time.

The series that ended on an interesting note also introduced the character of Sharad Shukla, essayed by actor Anjum Sharma, who is set to enter the world of crime and take on the Mafias including Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal respectively.

Anjum’s character has generated high interest in the audience, making them hungry to know more about his game of action in the second series and how he stands against them.

A source informs, “From here on, it’s going to be rivalry and drama between these interesting and powerful characters. From being a peace-loving guy to being someone who is set to take on the biggest mafias of his state, Sharad Shukla is set to change the dynamics of the world of crime in season 2.”

“The pre-production work has already begun and is expected to roll soon. Things are moving at a very exhilarating speed considering the huge anticipation,” the source adds.

Talking about Sharad’s character, director Gurmmeet Singh informs, “Sharad’s casting was slightly tricky because we knew that season 2 would see his character emerge and become more powerful in the series. So we were very clear that we needed someone who could easily carry his own weight and is a seasoned actor. We convinced Anjum that even though his part wasn’t long enough in the first series, it will carry forward in the next season. We are lucky that it worked out both ways and we had Anjum to play “Sharad”.

Having been actively involved in Theatre for over a Decade, Anjum has been part of the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire and Farhan Akhtar’s Wazir. The talented actor has also been part of a popular digital film for Hotstar- Baaki Itihaas, based on the writing of renowned writer Baadal Sarkar.
