It will be interesting to gauge audience’s reaction to my character because Dimpy has evolved to a large extent. Mirzapur is a big G-Spot for me- Guns and Ghoonghat, says actor Harshita Gaur

Talking about coincidences, Actor Harshita Gaur who will be seen in the upcoming season of Mirzapur on Amazon Prime actually has roots from this city in Uttar Pradesh. Harshita’s maternal grandfather hailed from Deoria which is close to Mirzapur and he grew up there along with his siblings.

Speaking about her childhood memories, Harshita said, “Just talking about Mirzapur makes me go all nostalgic as I have spent quite an amount of my childhood there. My naanaji and his younger brother were settled in Mirzapur. My naana eventually settled in Amritsar but we used to visit our cousins in Mirzapur during summer holidays as a kid and I have actually seed guns and pistols in that home. I was in fifth or sixth grade when I would visit the city and women used to be in ghoonghat till their waists. Only a few years back I got to know that my naani was actually fighting a case for long due to some illegal land grabbing and in fact our family and nani was advised not to go to Mirzapur or Wasliganj because of the threat of being killed on sight. It still sends shivers down my spine when I think about it.”

She further added , “When I was offered the series, it took me back to some  childhood memories in a way my family has suffered and seen that part within the family…like getting threats from an extended family. Even when I heard the narration and read the script, I had my childhood memories play out like a show reel as it wasn’t new to me, as  years back if I was probably spotted in that city I would have been killed on sight. So somewhere yes, I resonated with the fact that things like these do happen.”

Harshita Gaur will be seen reprising the role of Dimpi Pandit in the series starring Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi, Divyendu Sharma and Rasika Dugal. Mirzapur season 2 will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Friday, October 23rd, 2020.

If only there was a panel sitting somewhere watching my work, they’d see the range I am aiming for. Both the releases have their audiences and are both two different ends of the spectrum. The opportunities presented in front of me have opened up this range. And for an actor, it is nectar. Right now, I am just hoping that Death On The Nile gets a theatrical release in India.”

Ali Fazal‘s new video, Tasveer highlights the migrant labourers crisis in India

It’s only human that in the last few months, each of us has pondered to ourselves about the fractures in our society. In the face of a pandemic, the deep-seated unevenness has come to the fore, exposing the discrepancies of our society. Ali Fazal launched his newest work – Tasveer which is a heart-wrenching narration of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country. Lending his voice and having co-produced the uniquely animated visual journey that is helmed by Ashutosh Pathak, the video is a sharp commentary on the current world harping on the need to be kind. It ends with a beautiful message about the dignity of loving and how social gaps manifested by class can be fixed with empathy and kindness.

Pathak’s verse urges people to stand in support with the less privileged. As the COVID 19 pandemic intensified, the horrific visuals of laborers walking towards their homes in large numbers after being rendered jobless, Tasveer evokes in us the need to be socially responsible towards our fellow citizens.

In a beautifully done animated video by Pathak himself, with music rendered by Neel Adhikari, Ali was extremely keen to be part of this video.

Ali Fazal reunites with the team Mirzapur 2 as they begin final work on the new season

Looks like Amazon Prime is all set to release their tentpole show -Mirzapur; whose second season was due to hit the platform this year. After the cast posted a series of photos on their social media announcing the restart of their dubbing sessions, recently leading man Ali Fazal posted a picture of the cast together. Working remotely all through the lockdown, this is the first time the cast reunited in full strength for the dub session. Besides key members of the cast including Shweta Tripathi Sharma, the actors were also joined by people from the production team. The actors ensured that they practiced social distancing all through.

Speaking about it, Ali said, “We had dubbed a few episodes before the lockdown so we picked up mid-way. It was great to be back because this has been an unusually long break. We shot for the show long back so it took us some time getting back into the groove. Each actor usually comes individually but the one time we met was when our times clashed. The studios are on point about their hygiene so it allows one artist at a time. So we walked into a pre-sanitized studio. The instructions are given on the other side. Dubbing is a system that was already an isolated job.”

One of the platform’s most loved shows, the actor says that the pressure is now building. “We were always the underdogs and there was always immense love from the audience. But now the show is considerably delayed because of the circumstances posed by the pandemic. Through the lockdown, fans have been after us. We can feel the eyes on us and I hope the audience is a little generous. Such great content has come out in the last year that I will be very proud of being part of Amazon’s legacy.”

Though the fear of the pandemic looms large on most especially after two A-list stars of the industry-tested positive with COVID. But Fazal says there’s no scope for fear. “I am rather happy about going to work. We cannot fall prey to fear or that’s the end of us as we know it. Nothing can come out of fear. We need to be smart, healthy, and simply cautious.”
