Marathi theater is in the midst of a grand resurgence, with classic plays reclaiming the spotlight alongside bold contemporary productions. Theaters are buzzing once more, “Housefull” boards gleam outside auditoriums, and even balconies—once left untouched—are being reopened to welcome the flood of eager audiences hungry for quality storytelling. Riding this cultural wave is the much-awaited revival of one of Marathi theater’s most cherished plays, Shevgyachya Shengaa.
First staged on 10th April 2015, this heartwarming romantic comedy was brought to life by internationally acclaimed and award-winning writer-director Gajendra Ahire, with Swati Chitnis and Sanjay Mone essaying the leads. Now, a decade later, Milap Theaters is all set to breathe fresh life into the production, with Ahire himself returning to pen and direct the new adaptation, promising both nostalgia and innovation in equal measure.
The play is gearing up for its grand premiere on 27th September 2025 in Pune, with rehearsals currently in full swing and anticipation building among theater lovers. Adding a special touch, real-life couple Aishwarya Narkar and Avinash Narkar will take center stage in the lead roles. Joining them are talented performers Nandita Patkar, Apoorva Gore, Ankita Deepti, and Sakaar Desai, who together promise to deliver a dynamic theatrical experience filled with humor, warmth, and charm.
The revival is produced by Deepti Pranav Joshi, with Rahul Karnik, Pulkeshi Jape, and Dr. Mandar Joshi as co-producers, while Santosh Bharat Kanekar of Atharva Theatres presents the production. Backed by Fiction Fox, the promotional campaign ensures the play reaches audiences across Maharashtra and beyond with renewed energy.
Music and stagecraft, two pillars of Marathi theater, also shine here. Ahire’s lyrics are set to music by Tanmay Narendra Bhide, choreography is helmed by Phulwa Khamkar, while Nitin Nerurkar’s sets and Sheetal Talpade’s lighting design promise a striking, unforgettable visual spectacle.
With its mix of nostalgia, fresh talent, and artistic brilliance, Shevgyachya Shengaa is poised to win hearts all over again.
