Delhi guy Sparsh Sharma’s kitty is full with films this new year. His first release BATTALION 609 is releasing on 11th January. The handsome hunk who was seen in ‘Fugly’ and ‘Gollu Aur Pappu’ talks to Glamgold about his journey, films and lots more.

GG) Tell us about your background.
SS) I started doing theatre under the direction of eminent theater personalities Mr. Satish Anand and Dr. Jaidev Taneja. I have also done TVc, print ads, ramp walk. After doing theatre for 8 years and performing all over India I came to ‘city of dreams’ Mumbai.
GG) Then?
SS) Within 3 months, I bagged one of the lead roles in Hindi film which got shelved on Post- Production due to creative differences between Director and Producer. So I moved to TV Industry and bagged a very prominent role in serial “Kahani Chandrakanta Ki”. After this serial I got offers for films.
GG) How did you get BATTALION 609?
SS) Well I met director Brijesh Batuknath Tripathi through a common friend Kareem Haji. I just requested Brijesh sir to have a look on my Audition tape for BATTALION 609. He was impressed by my act and I was on board.
GG) So what is the film about?
SS) As everybody know it is a war film but it’s not just a war film. In the film we have touched emotions of army officials, soldiers and to what extent they go through to protect our borders without thinking about their own personal desires or life. We have fought 4 wars with Pakistan and there is always tension on border especially the border that we share with Pakistan. One of the USP of our film is the cricket match b/w Indian Army and Pakistan Army. This film is our little tribute to Indian Army.
GG) Tell us about your role?
SS) I am playing the role of Indian army captain, Captain Jassi, who is a big fan of Bollywood. He mimics actors but not as a mimicry artist but in his own style which makes him entirely different from a mimicry artist. Jassi is a character who has high regards professionally as well personally for Major Kamraj played by Shoaib Ibrahim. Jassi has many many shades in the film and I am really thankful to Brijesh sir for giving me Jassi coz it has tested my skills as an artist to a great extent and that’s what an artist want, challenging roles.
GG) Is there any ‘ilu ilu’ in the film?
SS) (laughs) I knew you are going to ask that…hahaha. There is an innocent cute love story of Jassi with Bijli played by Farnaaz Shetty.
GG) What preparations you did to get into skin of the character?
SS) Well it was really difficult to play an army official as there is a huge difference in life of a common man and an army official. It was a very difficult character to portray. You see, Jassi is a character who is effortless but to make it effortless, I had put hell lot of efforts. I took help of my school friend who is in Indian army. His name is Major Ankur Gautam. I used to talk to him for long hours. I observed him keenly while having conversations with him. The way he talks or walks as an army officer and the sudden change in him when he talks to me as a friend. I lost my weight, indulged myself in sports activities, tough workout schedule, strict diet chart.
GG) How was your over all experience of BATTALION 609?
SS) I am thankful to producer Naraindas Lalwani and director Brijesh Batuknath Tripathi sir to opt me for this role. I am sure audience will fall in love with Jassi.
GG) What next?
SS) My next is psychological thriller ‘Bhayam : Beyond Fear’. It will go on floors soon with a start to finish schedule. Then I will start my own project ‘Kaasganj’. Both the films will be directed by Veer Narayan who has been associate director of renown director SS Rajamouli.
