His recent role in the web series Dons and Darlings has further showcased his ability to bring depth and authenticity to his characters.
The actor describes his latest project, Dons and Darlings on ALTT, as a “rollercoaster.” He believes the series will captivate a wide audience with its thrilling plot and unexpected twists. “As the name suggests, it delves into the underworld of gangsters and the mafia,” Manraj Singh Sarma shares. “The title gives a hint of the world you’re about to enter. However, I wasn’t prepared for the shocking twists and turns that each episode brings. It’s sure to leave the audience stunned, just as it did me while playing Kartar.”
He goes on to praise the team behind the series: “Jeetu, our director, along with producers Amit and Kajal, and the entire ALTT team, are deeply invested in the show. They’ve crafted it for audiences to binge-watch and truly enjoy.” Commenting on the show’s glam factor, Manraj Singh Sarma adds, “Yes, there’s definitely a strong glamour element, but what might surprise viewers is that the show also features hard-hitting performances. My glamorous co-stars, Subuhii Joshi and Akanksha Puri, have done an incredible job. They’ve not only nailed the glamour quotient but also brought emotional depth to their characters.”
When asked about his character, Kartar, he explains, “I play Kartar, the right-hand man of the gangster Balraj. Kartar handles the tough jobs and protects Balraj’s family. He’s more than just a loyal enforcer—he’s like family to Balraj. But as the show unfolds, the power dynamics shift. Kartar is a complex, morally grey character with a mind of his own. I really connected with his internal conflict and the emotions he experiences.” Manraj Singh Sarma continues, “I believe the audience will empathize with Kartar. His emotional turmoil will resonate with them. I truly feel they will connect with his struggles. And I must say, every character in this show plays a significant role.”
Speaking about his on-screen chemistry with co-stars, Manraj Singh Sarma shares, “Subuhii, who plays Ananya, is a close friend of mine. We have a great bond off-screen, and that camaraderie definitely translates on-screen. She’s not just beautiful but also a wonderful human being. As for Akanksha, who plays Naaz, this was our first time working together. Although we hadn’t met before, the experience was very comfortable. She’s easy to work with—genuine and understanding.”
Reflecting on his journey with ALTT, Manraj Singh Sarma recalls, “My first web series was with ALTT—Romil and Jugal—which was ahead of its time. Even today, people are watching it on Jio and asking for a second season. I also worked on Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain seasons 1 and 2, alongside Ronit Roy, Mona Singh, and Suchitra Pillai. My journey with ALTT has been incredible. I’ve been fortunate to play some very interesting characters. Balaji has truly been like home to me, as I’ve done most of my work with them.”
