Some films spark curiosity the moment they are announced, and Ladki Bahin is one such project that has already begun generating conversations among audiences and within the film industry. Inspired by developments in society, the film draws attention to the widely discussed Ladki Bahin Yojana introduced by the Government of Maharashtra, a scheme that created a significant impact and became a topic of discussion in households across the state. Now, this socially relevant theme is making its way to the big screen. Carrying the thought-provoking tagline, “The ₹1500 installment is worth more than a lakh in our household,” the Marathi film Ladki Bahin is scheduled to release in theatres across Maharashtra on 17 April.
Presented by Shubham Film Production, the film Ladki Bahin is directed by Sheetal Shinde, who has also produced the project under the banner of Shanidev Films. The story, screenplay and dialogues are penned by Ganesh Shinde, while Babasaheb Patil serves as the executive producer. Writer Pratap Gangawane is associated with the project as its mentor. The film has also received special support from Shekhar Mate, Pankaj Chavan, social activist Trupti Desai, and Lahu Salunkhe.
The title Ladki Bahin itself invites reflection, while its intriguing tagline offers a glimpse into the film’s central theme. It raises curiosity about whether the narrative simply comments on the government scheme or unfolds deeper emotional and dramatic layers within the story. The film features a strong ensemble cast led by Smita Tambe, along with Surekha Kudachi, Usha Nadkarni, Usha Naik, Gautami Patil, Rukmini Sutar, Sarika Jadhav, Poonam Kapse, Madhav Abhyankar, Shashank Shende, Anil Nagarkar, Suresh Vishwakarma, Siddheshwar Zadbuke, Ganesh Shinde, Darshana Jokre and Mega Shinde.
At its core, the film explores how a government initiative can positively influence the lives of ordinary homemakers and empower women from modest backgrounds. Reflecting the spirit of the saying, “Let us support one another and move forward together on the right path,” the narrative highlights how underprivileged women unite, support each other, and strive toward collective progress. A subject that has sparked conversations from government offices to everyday households is presented in the film through an engaging and entertaining narrative. According to director Sheetal Shinde, Ladki Bahin aims to deliver wholesome family entertainment, combining a meaningful story, emotionally resonant moments, lively dance sequences, melodious music, powerful performances, and a strong social message.
While addressing a socially relevant issue with touches of humour, the film Ladki Bahin maintains the seriousness of its subject. Performances by some of Marathi cinema’s well-known actors are expected to keep audiences engaged until the very end. Adding to the film’s appeal is a special Gavlan dance performance by Lavani star Gautami Patil, which promises to captivate viewers. The songs are choreographed by Chinu Chetan, with music composed by Vineet Deshpande. Cinematography is handled by Baba Lad and Chaitanya Salunkhe. The film’s songs are rendered by Umesh Gavali, Anand Shinde and Gayatri Shelar, adding further musical richness to the cinematic experience.
