India’s first director’s company ‘Phantom-The Search of the Unknown’ launched

For the first time in India, four prolific minds have come together with a motive to produce content based films, nurture young talent and give each other creative freedom and support, for the sake of creating cinema that they love. All of them have worked really hard to get where they are today and are extremely proud and overwhelmed that they are blessed with such an opportunity. Through Phantom they want to bring a quantum change in the way the industry functions and want to bring in talent that they believe in.

The production house was floated by four prominent filmmakers, namely Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena with an objective of making content-based films and nurturing the budding talent.

They also announced their first film LOOTERA. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane of Udaan fame, starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha which along with the Phanton Production House will also be co-produced by Balaji Telefilms. It is a love story. The film is a period film that is set in the 1950’s which is set to go on the floor by December end.

LOOTERA, the first ever product by the four noted filmmakers, will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwani. The film will show Ranveer as the title suggests Lootera and Sonakshi as a Bengali beauty in the female lead.

Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap,Vikram Motwani  and Madhu Mantena announced their collaboration and are setting up India’s first director’s company which they call Phantom-The Search of the Unknown. And if four creative guys get together the event was bound to be a classy and extremely entertaining affair.

It is a commercial film,” Motwane told a press conference about the maiden venture.

Sonakshi Sinha  made a grand entry in an old red car dressed from head to toe in traditional Bengali attire looking breath takingly beautiful! Ranveer Singh rode in full style on a bike wearing a brown leather jacket and a white tee shirt with suspenders looking all like a Bengali young man from the 50’s.Their entry took everyone gathered around by storm.

Sonakshi, who arrived in a red car at the venue of the press conference said, “This is the most challenging role for me. I am looking all forward to start shooting and working with Ranveer.”

When asked about her Bengali look in the film, the gorgeous actress said,”I love to dress Indian which makes me a typical Hindi film heroine. LOOTERA will give me an opportunity to dress like original and authentic Bengali lady I have this authentic Bengali look of the 1950’s era. I will wear jewelry, clothes, kajal and make-up and etc of the same time period. We have kept the look original and as authentic as that of 1950s”.

Ranveer, donning a white T-shirt and high vest denims said, “Sonakshi had taken my breath away with her famous dialgoue ‘Thapad Se Darr Nahi Lagta…Pyaar Se Lagta Hai’. About his look in the flick, the actor who came to the venue on a bike said, “I am the coolest dude of the 1950s…with that high vest jeans and all retro look.” Ranveer went on to add, “I carry a coolest dude ever look even in high-waist pants. I think, I’m the second actor after Aamir Khan who has worn such pants. I draw inspiration from Dev Anand and James Dean though when it comes to dressing for LOOTERA.”

Bahl reveals that it’s a love story set in the ‘50s. But it’s a classic film, not a period venture.” Written and to-be-directed by Udaan (2010) director Motwane, the project is not a Rs. 50 crore film, as reported. “It will look like a costly film, but it won’t cost even one-fourth of what we’ve been reading about,” smiles Bahl.

“Phantom will be a content-driven production house. The idea was a dream that all three had,” says a team member.

Anurag Kashyap said, “Film maker like us, it was a long struggle in the industry to do the kind of films we wanted. We will nurture new talent and this would be possible with all of us coming together.” Kashyap told the reporters, “ The Idea is to make all kind of and all range of films, bring new talent… be its director or an actor or writer, “he  added.
