Acclaimed actor Gulshan Devaiah, who has earned immense acclaim for his captivating portrayal of King Kulashekara in Kantara: Chapter 1, recently reflected on his creative partnership with the film’s visionary creator — actor, writer, and director Rishabh Shetty. The highly anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara stands as a powerful convergence of two artistic minds devoted to authenticity, storytelling, and cinematic truth.

Revealing that their connection was forged years before the project began, Gulshan Devaiah shared that he first met Rishabh in 2019 through mutual friend PD Satish Chandra. “Rishabh met me through a common friend and expressed his desire to collaborate. I didn’t know who he was back then, but I really liked meeting him. He came across as sincere — a true lover of cinema, full of passion and ideas. I was instantly drawn to that energy,” Gulshan Devaiah recalled. Although their early projects together didn’t materialize, their mutual respect and admiration laid the foundation for what would later become one of the most talked-about collaborations in Indian cinema.
That long-anticipated creative connection finally came to life with Kantara: Chapter 1. Reflecting on their journey, Gulshan Devaiah added, “When Rishabh and I first met, we connected as artists almost instantly. There was a shared sense of curiosity, a belief that we would work together someday, even though we didn’t know when or how. That intention manifested beautifully in 2025 with Kantara: Chapter 1. Working with Rishabh has been one of the most creatively fulfilling experiences of my career. He’s an exceptional storyteller — passionate, honest, and deeply sincere. He leads with integrity and inspires everyone on set to give their best.”
Gulshan Devaiah further added, “Our shared love for authenticity and meaningful storytelling made this collaboration feel effortless. Kantara: Chapter 1 isn’t just a film; it’s a celebration of artistic synergy and faith in storytelling that moves souls.”
Directed by Rishabh Shetty, the prequel continues to captivate audiences globally with its emotional depth, spiritual richness, and powerful performances. For Gulshan, his debut in the Kannada film industry marks not just a milestone — but, in his words, “the best kind of beginning one could hope for.”
