Fantasy has quietly but decisively journeyed from the fringes of Indian cinema to its very heart. As audiences increasingly seek immersive, larger-than-life theatrical experiences, the genre now offers a powerful blend of scale, emotion, and visual grandeur—one that effortlessly transcends language and regional boundaries. Deeply rooted in Indian mythology yet shaped by contemporary imagination, fantasy is emerging as one of the most exciting and future-ready genres for filmmakers today. Producer and filmmaker Suraj Singh, whose banner BLive is dedicated to crafting ambitious, fantasy-driven narratives, believes the moment could not be more opportune.

According to Suraj Singh, Indian audiences have grown far more receptive to imagined worlds—especially when those worlds draw from familiar cultural symbols, folklore, and mythological references. Big-ticket projects like Ramayana and Naagzilla, both slated for release this year, have already sparked immense curiosity and excitement, underlining the growing appetite for spectacle-led storytelling. Setting the tone early is Rahu Ketu, a film that has raised expectations and ignited conversations right at the start of the year.

Reflecting on the genre’s renewed resonance, Suraj Singh shares, “Fantasy and mythology have always connected with Indian audiences, but today the scale has completely transformed. Viewers are eagerly awaiting films like Ramayana and Naagzilla because they promise grandeur coupled with emotion. Beginning the year with Rahu Ketu has already elevated expectations for what Indian fantasy cinema can achieve. With advancements in VFX and storytelling tools, we can finally present stories the way we once only imagined. When technology strengthens belief, audiences commit themselves wholeheartedly.”

Rahu Ketu is an upcoming comedy-adventure written and directed by Vipul Vig, blending humour, fantasy, and rich elements of Indian folklore. Produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal, Pragati Deshmukh, Suraj Singh, and Varsha Kukreja under the banners of Zee Studios and BLive Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Shalini Pandey, and Chunky Panday. Scheduled for a theatrical release on 16 January 2026, Rahu Ketu promises a playful yet imaginative cinematic ride.

As technology, creativity, and cultural storytelling converge, Indian fantasy cinema stands poised for a golden era—one where myth meets modern magic on the big screen.
