Actor Davinder Gill, who made his feature film debut as Jarnail Singh in Maidaan, has now carved a strong impression in the digital space with his performance in Kohrra Season 2. Stepping into the role of Constable Aujla, Davinder is currently soaking in widespread appreciation for his natural screen presence and grounded portrayal that adds texture to the gripping crime drama.

Interestingly, the journey with Kohrra did not begin with Season 2. Davinder Gill reveals that he had earlier auditioned for the first season as well. “I had auditioned for Season 1 with Nikita, but there wasn’t a character that suited me at the time. For Season 2, she reached out again and asked me to audition. After I was shortlisted, the director wanted to have a conversation to understand me as a person — whether he could visualise Aujla in me. I suppose he liked the flavour I could bring to the role,” Davinder Gill shares.
Set against the moody and atmospheric backdrop of Punjab, Kohrra 2 continues its intense murder mystery narrative, where nearly every character is layered with emotional scars and moral complexities. Amid this darkness, Aujla brings a subtle shift in tone. “Everyone in Season 2 carries a dark side and a painful backstory. Aujla, however, introduces a slightly lighter and sometimes fun element. Yet he is extremely sincere and dependable as a constable. He believes he is the best in theory and takes immense pride in his job,” Davinder Gill explains.
Much of Aujla’s screen time is shared with Garundi, played by Barun Sobti, creating a compelling dynamic within the police force. To prepare, Davinder Gill observed a close friend in the Punjab Police, closely studying the emotional detachment officers maintain while handling cases. “Their calmness, even around something as intense as a dead body, fascinated me. That professional composure inspired my portrayal,” he says.
Deeply rooted in his Punjabi identity, Davinder Gill allowed his natural dialect and cultural nuances to shape the character. Grateful for the opportunity, he credits the casting and direction team for their trust, calling Kohrra one of India’s finest web shows.
