Ananya Wadkar, daughter of Suresh Wadkar, makes her playback debut with Vaada Hai

Young musical prodigy and daughter of ace singer Suresh Wadkar, Ananya Wadkar is stepping gracefully into the cinematic soundscape with a debut that feels both rooted and radiant. Trained in Hindustani classical music from early childhood and equally adept at the sitar, Ananya makes a stirring playback debut with the evocative track ‘Vaada Hai’ from the film O’Romeo, helmed by the masterful Vishal Bhardwaj.

Born into a home where melody was a way of life, Ananya Wadkar musical journey has been steeped in riyaaz, tradition and emotional depth. Her entry into playback singing feels less like a beginning and more like a natural crescendo. Vaada Hai carries the fragrance of classical purity, her voice gliding effortlessly through intricate nuances while retaining a youthful tenderness. The reprise version, also rendered by her, further highlights her tonal maturity and expressive control.

Adding another feather to her debut, Ananya Wadkar has also recorded ‘Hum Toh Tere Hi Liye’ for the film — a song not featured on the official album but already resonating deeply with listeners for its heartfelt, soul-stirring rendition.

Reflecting on her experience with Vishal Bhardwaj, she shares that singing for a composer she has admired since childhood felt surreal. She describes him as meticulous about every murki and emotional inflection, yet generous in allowing artists the freedom to discover their own voice within his compositions — an experience she calls both liberating and transformative.

Beyond playback, Ananya Wadkar is a key member of The Gen Next Collective, a band of young musicians honouring their legacy while crafting their own sonic identities. For her, lineage is a blessing — but individuality is a calling.

With a debut steeped in classical elegance and contemporary sensitivity, Ananya Wadkar emerges as a luminous new voice in India’s evolving musical tapestry — one that promises depth, discipline and enduring resonance.
