Gujarati film Jethalal Na Bhawada is releasing on 7 March 2025. Amit Kumar Gupta is the producer of the film, directed by Nilesh Mehta. Amit Kumar Gupta, the owner of the country’s leading Captain Video having rights of many Hindi, Bhojpuri and other regional language films, is debuting in Gujarati film industry as a producer with this film. As a producer, he has produced Hindi and Bhojpuri films. Talking to Glamgold Amit Kumar discussed about his journey.
GG) You are already associated with the world of entertainment.
AKG) My father founded a company called Captain Video in 1993. We are from Delhi so he used to come to Mumbai to release the video cassettes after buying the rights of the films. I remember it was 1998 when Mithun Chakraborty’s many films were released. We were releasing one of his films every month. We had released many video cassettes which include Machis, Jani Dushman, Salankhe, Farz, Indian, Biwi No. 1, Vastav etc.
Then started making DVDs of the films. YouTube started in 2010, we also turned to it. A film is premiered every Saturday on our YouTube channel. Along with this, we started a Rapchik App, streaming films including Hindi, Bhojpuri, Gujarati. Today there are five hundred videos and seven lakh subscribers on Rapchik.
GG) How did entry happened in Gujarati films?
AKG) Since last forty years we are associated with Mr. Hirachand Dand of Madhu Video. He suggested making a Gujarati film and I said yes. Let me tell you that we have decided to produce six to seven Gujarati films a year. We are starting with Jethalal Na Bhawada.
GG) What kind of films do you want to make in Gujarati?
Akg) Talking about my choice, I love to make films with a social message. Whether it is social or comedy, a message should be there for audience. I have always tried to raise awareness among people through my films.
GG) Tell us about Jethalal Na Bhawada.
AKG) The name itself indicated that this is a comedy film with the story about extra marital affair. But the film also has a subtle message that what we see can be wrong sometimes.
GG) How was the experience of Gujarati filmmaking?
AKG) It was great. Director Nilesh Mehta has presented the story of Ashok Upadhyay on the screen very beautifully. The lead actors of the film Jaydeep Shah, Jignesh Modi, Jasmine and Vidhi Shah have performed very well. I appreciate Nilesh Mehta to complete the film in a fixed time and budget. Audience will enjoy this laughter riot.
