During the second lockdown, when the world was at a standstill, actor Richa Chadha didn’t just explore her new role as a producer—she also wrote the script for a heartfelt dramedy in which she will star. Tentatively titled Aakhri Somvaar, the film follows a successful reality TV producer who suddenly becomes desperate to get married after a colleague calls her a “childless cat lady.”
Sharing insights about Aakhri Somvaar, Richa explains, “This story is deeply personal, drawn from my experiences growing up in a middle-class Punjabi household. I watched my older cousins go through the arranged marriage process, and those memories shaped this narrative. When we graduate from college, we are full of dreams and ambitions. But as we step into the workforce, those aspirations often take a backseat. Suddenly, you find yourself in your mid-30s, still chasing both a successful career and a fulfilling personal life. Yet, society labels it ‘too late,’ making you feel disillusioned about dreams that once seemed achievable.”
She further describes the film as a slice-of-life story about unraveling and rebuilding oneself. “There’s a noticeable gap in family entertainment today, and I believe this film will fill that space,” she says. “Also, as an actor, I feel my comic timing has been underutilized. From a producer’s perspective, comedy is a monetizable asset, and I’m excited to tap into that.”
Aakhri Somvaar promises a refreshing take on love, societal expectations, and the lengths people go to for their dream wedding. While Richa remains tight-lipped about the director, the project is already generating buzz.
With this film, she aims to offer an entertaining yet relatable story that resonates with many who have felt the pressure of balancing career goals and personal life. The dramedy is expected to strike a chord with audiences, blending humor with the real-life struggles of navigating love and ambition in today’s world.
