Strengthening its commitment to a future-focused, culturally rooted content ecosystem, ‘Z’ has launched the Zee Short Film Contest — a first-of-its-kind, pan-India omnichannel initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing emerging filmmaking talent.
The contest brings together leading cinematic voices from across regions on one national platform, making it one of the most ambitious multilingual talent discovery efforts in Indian entertainment. Open to filmmakers in seven languages — Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada — the initiative offers storytellers from diverse cultural backgrounds an opportunity to showcase their craft on a prestigious national stage.
The jury panel features acclaimed filmmakers including Anurag Kashyap (Hindi), Ravi Jadhav (Marathi), Srijit Mukherji (Bengali), Nag Ashwin (Telugu), Samuthirakani (Tamil), Lijo Jose Pellissery (Malayalam) and Hemanth Rao (Kannada). For the first time, such distinguished regional storytellers are united on one platform to mentor and identify new talent, reinforcing ‘Z’s vision of building a culturally diverse and future-ready creative ecosystem.
Through this nationwide contest, aspiring filmmakers gain the chance to present their work to industry stalwarts, earn professional recognition, win cash prizes, and explore opportunities within Z’s expansive content network across digital, television and theatrical platforms.
Kartik Mahadev, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEE & ZEE5, described the initiative as a strategic step toward strengthening India’s creative pipeline and giving regional excellence national visibility.
Encouraging participants, the jury members emphasized passion, authenticity and belief in storytelling, inviting young creators to seize the opportunity and share their unique voices with the nation.
With the Zee Short Film Contest, ‘Z’ aims not just to discover fresh voices but to create a structured pathway for the next generation of filmmakers shaping the future of Indian cinema. The initiative also reflects the growing importance of short-form storytelling as a powerful creative medium, offering emerging directors a launchpad to experiment boldly, build credibility, and transition into mainstream filmmaking with strong industry backing.
