Mukul Harish, who essays the role of Varun in Rajan Shahi and Deepa Shahi’s immensely popular show Anupamaa, produced under the banner of Shahi Productions Pvt Ltd, believes that introducing fresh twists is essential to keeping a long-running show engaging and alive.
Sharing his thoughts, Mukul Harish says that the team is constantly working towards offering something new to the audience. “We always try to do everything possible to keep the show interesting for viewers. These twists add a completely new pace and energy to my performance. They push you to stay alert, present, and fully invested in every scene,” he explains.
Reflecting on today’s evolving viewing habits, Mukul Harish adds that fast-paced storytelling is the need of the hour. “We live in a very fast-paced world, and sudden narrative changes are important to keep the storyline gripping. As actors, it becomes our responsibility to adapt quickly and give our best to the audience. It’s exciting, but at the same time, it can be quite demanding,” he shares.
When it comes to handling unexpected shifts in the storyline, Mukul Harish follows a straightforward approach. “Either you convince me about how and why something is happening, or I convince you. But even if you don’t convince me and want me to perform it your way, I’ll still do it—because that’s my job as an actor,” he says with refreshing honesty.
According to Mukul Harish, adaptability is non-negotiable in a show like Anupamaa, where the story is constantly evolving. “When the narrative moves at this pace, adaptability becomes the key,” he notes.
Asked about his favourite kind of twist, Mukul believes strong storytelling matters more than the nature of the twist. “Any twist supported by solid reasoning works beautifully. But if I had to choose, emotional twists are my favourite—they connect deeply with both the actor and the audience,” he says.
Teasing what lies ahead, Mukul Harish concludes with a hint of what viewers can expect. “Varun’s journey is going to get really exciting. Expect drama, love, conspiracies, and much more. Most importantly, expect the unexpected.”
