Actor and musician Danish Sood steps into his most hauntingly powerful role to date with Bhay, a paranormal thriller inspired entirely by true events and now streaming on Amazon MX Player. The series delves into the real-life investigations of the Indian Paranormal Society (IPS) and its enigmatic founder Gaurav Tiwari, whose sudden and mysterious death continues to intrigue believers and sceptics alike.
Danish Sood portrays Sid (Siddharth Bantwal), a real individual whose deeply unsettling personal experiences with the paranormal became the catalyst for an extraordinary journey into the unknown. Reflecting on the role, Danish shares, “Sid isn’t just another character. He’s someone who actually lived through these experiences. Every scene was rooted in reality, and that kind of responsibility fundamentally changes how you approach the craft.”
Before becoming part of the IPS, Sid encountered a benevolent spirit named Bacchua, an experience that transformed fear into fascination and ultimately purpose. “What truly drew me to Sid was his evolution—from someone who is haunted to someone who helps the haunted. It’s rare to portray a character whose trauma becomes his calling,” Danish Sood adds.
As the narrative unfolds, Sid emerges as a pivotal force in investigating some of India’s most unsettling paranormal cases. Following Gaurav Tiwari’s passing, he steps into a crucial mediating role, navigating the void left by a man whose life and death remain surrounded by unanswered questions.
Unlike conventional horror, Bhay avoids exaggerated visual scares or overused supernatural tropes. Instead, it builds an atmosphere of quiet dread, allowing fear to linger in the unseen. “What makes Bhay stand apart is its honesty. It doesn’t rely on showing ghosts every few minutes. It focuses on the feeling—the presence—and that’s far more unsettling,” says Danish Sood.
The genre also strikes a personal chord for the actor. “I grew up terrified of paranormal shows. Now I’ve just learned how to hide it better,” he admits with a smile. “Being part of Bhay reminded me that fear and curiosity often walk hand in hand.”
