The Oscar-winning Indian production house Sikhya Entertainment has joined hands with one of Tamil cinema’s most visionary filmmakers, Karthik Subbaraj, for a brand-new feature film that officially went on floors today in Madurai after a traditional pooja ceremony. This marks a landmark collaboration between two creative powerhouses — Sikhya’s globally acclaimed storytelling and Karthik’s inventive cinematic style.
Led by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, Sikhya Entertainment has built an extraordinary legacy of stories that transcend boundaries. From The Elephant Whisperers — India’s first Oscar-winning documentary short — to acclaimed films like The Lunchbox, Masaan, Pagglait, and the recent National Award-winner Kathal, Sikhya has consistently championed authentic, homegrown voices with global appeal. Their films have become a symbol of meaningful cinema that blends emotional depth with universal resonance.
For Karthik Subbaraj, this project marks his 10th directorial venture, adding to an impressive filmography that includes cult hits such as Pizza, Jigarthanda, Iraivi, Petta, Mercury, Jagame Thanthiram, Mahaan, and Jigarthanda DoubleX. Known for his original narratives, sharp storytelling, and ability to balance artistry with mass appeal, Karthik has carved a distinct identity in Indian cinema as a filmmaker unafraid to experiment while staying rooted in emotion and culture.
Speaking about the collaboration, Guneet Monga Kapoor said, “At Sikhya, we’ve always believed in nurturing original voices and telling bold, homegrown stories that travel across cultures. Partnering with Karthik feels like a natural extension of that mission. His cinema is rooted, inventive, and wildly original, yet universal in emotion.”
Karthik Subbaraj shared his excitement, adding, “I’ve always admired Sikhya’s artistic vision and their commitment to meaningful cinema. Collaborating with Guneet and Achin feels truly special — this story is very close to my heart, and I’m glad to have found the right producers for it.”
Achin Jain concluded, “Karthik brings a rare balance of craft and instinct — his films are cult yet commercial, unpredictable yet deeply human. This partnership perfectly reflects Sikhya’s mission to tell powerful, rooted stories through a global cinematic language.”
