Akshay Singh is currently enjoying the success of his gripping web series Naam Gum Jayega, which is streaming on Amazon MX Player. A true multi-hyphenate, Akshay has worn several hats for this project — as director, co-producer, and actor — and each role has added a distinct creative dimension to the series.
Describing the show, Akshay Singh says, “Naam Gum Jayega is a drama-thriller layered with suspense, emotions, and unpredictable twists. To do justice to its intricate narrative, I wanted to experiment with a completely new visual grammar — something that marked a clear departure from my previous works like the feature film Pinky Beauty Parlour and the web series Assi Nabbe Poore Sau.” The filmmaker focused on innovation at every stage — from shot composition and lighting to camera movement and staging. “When viewers assume the series was made on a much higher budget than it actually was, I take that as the biggest compliment. It reflects the sincerity of our creative process,” he adds.
Balancing multiple creative roles came naturally to Akshay Singh, who admits that cinema is his greatest passion. “It might seem overwhelming to juggle directing, acting, and producing, but for me, it’s pure joy. Each responsibility activates a different creative muscle — as a director, I explore storytelling; as an actor, I dive into emotions; and as a producer, I ensure the vision comes alive,” he shares with enthusiasm. Speaking about his dual role on set, Akshay explains, “When I’m in front of the camera, I surrender completely to the moment, but the director in me is always quietly observing how the scene is unfolding. People on set often joke that I have a split personality — and honestly, I take that as a compliment!”
On working with the ensemble cast, which includes Barkha Bisht, Rahul Singh, and Romiit Raaj, Akshay notes, “Every actor needs a unique approach — with Barkha, it was about nuance; with Rahul, emotion; and with Romiit, motivation. Directing while acting was certainly a challenge, but one I absolutely loved.”
With Naam Gum Jayega, Akshay Singh once again proves that creativity knows no limits when driven by passion, purpose, and pure love for storytelling.
