Akshay Oberoi on Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari: “Cinema Is Bringing Families Back to Theatres”

As Indian cinema gently rediscovers its roots in emotion, laughter, and love, actor Akshay Oberoi is all set to make a delightful return to the big screen with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Shashank Khaitan, the family comedy stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, and is slated for release on October 2nd. For Akshay Oberoi, the project is more than just another vibrant ensemble film — it marks the revival of a storytelling style that has always been close to the heart of Indian audiences. “For a long time, we assumed families had stopped visiting theaters,” he reflects. “But the truth is, they were simply waiting for the right stories to bring them back. Clean, heartwarming, funny, emotional — that’s the essence of Indian cinema. And Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari captures that spirit beautifully.”

Recent films like Sitaare Zameen Par and Metro In Dino have shown how intergenerational audiences are once again embracing relatable, feel-good content rooted in emotion and togetherness. Akshay Oberoi credits this shift to visionary creators: “The makers believed in stories about love, family, relationships, and joy. It’s not just about nostalgia; it’s about progress. Audiences are evolving, but their appetite for heartfelt Indian emotion is very much alive.” Balancing commercial entertainers with offbeat independent cinema has been a consistent hallmark of Akshay’s career, and he shares that the mood on set mirrored the film’s tone — lighthearted, joyous, and brimming with warmth. “It’s a clean film, one you can sit through with your parents, laugh wholeheartedly, and feel uplifted. That’s rare today — and so necessary.”

As the countdown to the release begins, Akshay Oberoi views Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari as more than just a film — it’s part of a larger movement to bring back stories that unite people in laughter, emotion, and love. “This is the kind of cinema that reminds us why we fell in love with movies in the first place,” Akshay Oberoi says with a smile.
