After years away from the limelight, Suraj Berry, son of veteran actor Sudesh Berry — remembered for cult films like Border, Sanam Teri Kasam, Army and popular TV dramas including Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and Suraag: The Clue — is ready to reclaim his place in the entertainment industry with renewed zeal.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Suraj Berry grew up in the shadow of his father’s towering stardom. A shy child, he completed his schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir before graduating from Mithibai College. “My father was one of the busiest actors of the ’90s. Though I often missed his presence at home, I never blamed him. Wherever he went, he carried love, respect, and admiration. That left a deep impact on me,” Suraj Berry recalls. His fascination with acting was natural, and he stepped into the industry with The Little Godfather, a film jointly produced by Ekta Kapoor and Suniel Shetty, based on the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts. But fate had other plans — despite being 90% complete, the film was shelved. “It was heartbreaking. I signed a few more projects, but they too never reached completion. At one point, I felt destiny was pushing me elsewhere,” Suraj Berry shares.
Suraj Berry then chose a different path. Moving to Australia, he pursued a Master’s in Professional Accounting while also training in acting to refine his craft. Over the past few years, he has been working as a Prison Officer in a maximum-security facility — a job he says gave him a deeper understanding of human behavior, emotions, and resilience. “Every day was like witnessing raw, real-life drama. It taught me so much about strength and survival,” Suraj Berry reflects.
Now, the pull of the camera has become impossible to ignore. “Acting has always been my first love. No matter where life took me, the passion never faded. Today, I feel stronger, wiser, and more prepared to return. I’m auditioning for projects across films, OTT, and television, trusting my instincts to guide me,” Suraj Berry says with confidence. With his father’s legendary legacy behind him and his own life experiences shaping his perspective, Suraj Berry’s comeback feels like the start of an inspiring new chapter in Indian entertainment.
