Adapting a beloved novel into a web series is never simple—especially when the book carries deep emotional resonance with its readers. Director Prashant Singh, however, is no stranger to this challenge. After successfully helming Dehati Ladke, another literary adaptation, he returns with Pyar Paisa aur Profit, based on Durjoy Datta’s 2008 bestseller Now That You’re Rich… Let’s Fall in Love!.

“After Dehati Ladke, I was both excited and cautious,” Prashant Singh shares. “Translating a book to screen comes with immense responsibility. Readers are deeply attached to the source, and we had to honour that.”
The core narrative—its emotional arcs, character motivations, and central themes—remains intact. However, significant updates were made to bring the story into the present. “People’s relationships, communication styles, and goals have evolved since 2008,” he explains. “So while the soul of the story hasn’t changed, the world around it definitely has.”
Durjoy Datta, the author himself, was actively involved in the adaptation, which helped the team maintain authenticity while modernizing the narrative. “Having Durjoy onboard was a huge help,” Prashant notes. “We worked closely with the original material, and the writers even felt the show is a step up from the book—I’ll happily take that as a compliment.”
He acknowledges the creative compromises that come with the shift from page to screen. “Books let you dwell in a moment, get into a character’s mind. A show needs tighter pacing. One of the hardest parts was deciding what to leave out. Everything felt important.”
Characters, too, were reimagined to reflect contemporary life. “They still have the same soul, but their context has changed—so naturally, their reactions and journeys had to evolve.”
Maintaining the balance between romance, realism, and drama meant reworking the structure to meet the expectations of today’s audience. “Nothing was changed without purpose. Every adjustment came from a place of love for the original,” he says.
And when asked to choose between Pyar, Paisa, and Profit? Prashant laughs, “Profit in both Pyar and Paisa!”
