Debutant director Trushant Ingle’s film ZOLLYWOOD is based on ‘Zadipatti’ type of play which is immensely popular in Vidarbh region of Maharashtra. The film has bagged many awards and applauds in International Film Festivals. The film will release on 3 June 2022. The special thing about the film is it stars 130 actors of Zadipatti theater who are common people and never acted in any film.
Talking about the choice of actors, Trishanth says, “For the roles in the film, I needed actors who look genuine and speak the local language. We were striving for that. If you choose a professional artist, you have to work hard on their appearance, their language, their accent feel real. It takes time. But if you take non-actors or if you take actors from Zadipatti, then their innocence, authentic looks, speech would be more useful for the film. So our casting directors Rahul Gawande and Saurabh Hirkane went to different places and took auditions. Around 500 to 550 people were selected from it. Some of them were even artists of Zadipatti. Then the final selection was made. The artists from the village where the film was to be shot were also selected. At the beginning of the filming, everyone was feeling embarrassed in front of the camera. But all of them have done an amazing job. Their acting is very natural. So to the audience will have an authentic experience of enjoying Zadipatti.”
Zadipatti plays are popular in Vidarbha region but the rest of Maharashtra does not have much information about this art. Zadipatti theater is a very special art form. It is like an industry. So for the first time ever, Zadipatti is going to reach the worldwide through this movie.
Priyanka Agarwal, Anshulika Dubey and Shashwat Singh of Wishberry Films have produced the film Zollywood presented by Deux Farming Films and Amit Masurkar. Amit who has directed films like Newton, Sulemani Keeda is creative producer of this film.
