Mauli Dave, the versatile singer and performer, who was born and brought up in Texas, is back in the limelight with a bang. Her excellent rendition of the title song of PLAYERS is not only winning her accolades, but has also cemented her position in the Indian music industry. The song, put to tune by Pritam, has captured attention of critics and music lovers alike, and is on its way to the top of the charts.
“I am very charged up about this song. Neeraj Sridhar is my co-singer in this. This is the first time I am singing for Abbas-Mustan’s commercial movie and am very positive about this. Let’s hope for the best,” says the pretty singer.
Mauli first came to limelight through her splendid performance in the 2007 season of Sa Re Ga Ma. Her rendition of the song Maiyya Maiyya from the film GURU enthralled everyone and she became a known face overnight. In fact, so impressed were the judges with her that Bappi Lahiri started calling her ‘Indian Shakira’. Mauli lived up to the expectations of the judges and went up to the final rounds of the show. Her successful television stint continued when she became the first runners up of ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’ in 2011. She also proved her mettle as a host in the show ‘Rock and Roll Family’. Her skills in hosting a show and having a captive audience was praised by everyone include celebrities like Tanuja, Kajol and Ajay Devgn, who were part of the show.
Mauli is also one of the most wanted stage show performers today and has done more than 150 concerts. The versatile singer she is, in no time can she understand the audience pulse and deliver one song after the other. Mauli’s scintillating presence and gorgeous looks definitely add to the charm – at 5ft 10” she was crowned Miss India Texas in 2007. Little doubt that Bappi da still refers to her as the Indian Shakira.
Though the title song of players is a major break for Mauli, she has also sung for films like JAI VEERU (Aagre ka ghagra with Javed Ali and Raja Hassan), TOMORROW (she also acted in this film), MITTAL VS MITTAL (Khuda Hafiz). She has also lent her voice for four songs in the hit album ‘The Bartender Mix’ by Mike McCleary. All the songs – Chalte Chalte, Jaane Kya Tune Kahi, Yeh Samah and Waqt Ne Kiya – were very different from the sensuous numbers she sung till now, and bears proof of her versatility. Besides this, she has also sung for jingles of Fast Track and Del Monte.
Mauli has been recognized and appreciated by listeners and industry bodies alike. She was nominated for the Stardust and Mirchi Music Awards in the Upcoming Singer category and won the Garvvati Gujarat Award in 2010.
With the PLAYERS song on its way to become a superhit, Mauli is all set to skyrocket to the zenith of the Indian music industry.
