The film is incomplete without spice of background music says Sameer Phaterpekar

In any film to make the scenes effective background music plays a vital role. But changing techniques has changed the music world. It needed 60 to 100 musicians while recording a song but now 4 to 5 musicians are enough. Era of big recording studios have come to an end and shrieked into a small room. This new phase keyboard has become the king. Expert keyboard player, better as a music director. That is the reason distance between music and background music is no more now.

Background music of recently released Hindi film FORCE was much appreciated. This great job was done by Sameer Phaterpekar. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah was so impressed by his work that he decided to release background music of the film separately. Sameer says there are four different tracks of background music each of eight minutes. These tracks give you a different experience feel when you hear.

Sameer Phaterpekar started as a guitarist in 1982 with music director duo Laxmikant-Pyaarelal. He has worked with Nadeem-Shravan, Kalyanji-Anandji, Rajesh Roshan etc. He worked as musician for KHUDAGAWAH, TRIMURTI and many more for almost 250 films. He gave background music independently in Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty starrer SHAADI KARKE PHAS GAYA YAAR. His journey continued with Insan, Parwana etc. He has given background music in all the films of director Nishikant Kamat. Sameer won the Sahyadri Award for Marathi film RINGA RINGA.

Making an ordinary scene very effective background music is 40 to 50 percent responsible. Till few years back producers use to save money by making background score from the library stock. But Dolby sound changed the time. Dolby has many tracks and speakers so the era of musicians returned who were giving background score.

Many seminars on music are held in Mumbai. Sameer continues, “Once I showed hit Marathi film DOMBIVALI FAST without background music in one of such seminar. People were surprised, shocked. They understood then the film is incomplete without spice of background music.”

Sharing his views Sameer says, “Today music world has changed. Songs are made seeing the dance number and not to hummm. That is reason songs like ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ becomes chartbusters. So producers expect to create same music. Poor music director…What can he do in such scenario. Such songs are forgotten as the film goes that is a different thing. Today sales figure of cassettes and CDs have sinked. Music companies have new way to earn in form of ring tones. Sameer admits today’s music is noisy and not melodious but thanks to Sufi music which gives relief in this atmosphere.”

Sameer’s next is Amol Shetge directed LOVE RECIPE. He has given music and also background music for the film. LOVE RECIPE will be releasing in 2012.
