The scope of the exciting stories of revolutionaries who have devoted their lives for the mightily fierce struggle for the freedom of India from the colonial British era in itself is so vast with full of thrilling events that a separate chapter altogether can be written not only about each such revolutionary but also about each such inspiring incident filled therein. While spreading their movement, some of them firmly laid faith in the ideological philosophy they earnestly believed in whereas others indulged in violent means to ignite the blast of their revolution to ramshackle the grip of the British Empire even when they were required to strive against the impact of the prevailing political thought. Equally stimulating chapter from the struggle for the independence of India, full of burning passions and challenging deeds, is the life of ‘Krantisingh Nana Patil’.
It was Nana Patil who devastated the ruthless regime of the British from the Western Maharashtra and the surrounding regions by daringly challenging the colonial atrocities that were imposing merciless injustice over the rural people from this area. He founded a parallel government of his own which popularly came to be known as ‘Prati Sarkar’ transformed later into the identity of ‘Patree Sarkar’, by deploying the whirlwind strength of the organized platoons of freedom fighters called ‘Tufani Sena’ to wage a war against the exploitation of both, the colonial British rulers and the local landlords or priestly classes of rural society. It is through the upcoming Marathi feature film titled as ‘Patree Sarkar’, the life saga of revolutionary freedom fighter ‘Krantisingh Nana Patil’ full of electrifying events is now appearing on the screens of the Marathi Cinema.
This film is being introduced by the distinguished writer-director Gajendra Ahire who is already famous for content-rich presentation and work of technical excellence involved in his films. The awesome responsibility of producing this challenging film is being shouldered by Sayyad Asif Jah – Shuja Ali under the banner of production house ‘A.S.R. Media’ prominent for being functional in the domain of Hindi films being made in the Bollywood for over last two decades.
It was only because of the active role played by the revolutionary Nana Patil, why the intensely turbulent movement in the rural areas could become possible under the flagship leadership of the Peasants and Workers Party. He founded a parallel government of his own called ‘Prati Sarkar’ with an independent constitution of its own to rebel against the ferocious and demonic rule of the British. This movement of ‘Prati Sarkar’ was a strong deterrent for the moneylenders and landlords of the prevailing times who were hands-in-gloves with the British regime to exploit the rural masses. The ‘Prati-Sarkar’ came to be known as ‘Patree Sarkar’ solely because Nana Patil did not hesitate from piercing the nails and sheets of iron in the soles of these anti-social elements while dictating sentences of punishment to them.
The task of making a film about the lives of historical personalities or subjects is always very daunting and challenging. Observations about those bygone individuals, their times, the references involved, and the research needed for the same bears extremely great significance. Through a long period of last six months, director Gajendra Ahire left no stone unturned while collecting variety of documents and historical records about the life of revolutionary freedom fighter Nana Patil. He personally approached the individual relatives and associates of this grand personality and sought to communicate with them. Kranti-Sinha Nana Patil had spread the network of his organization through scores of villages in the Western Maharashtra which Gajendra Ahire sought to pay a personal visit to for assessing the times of that pre-independence era renowned for this underground movement. During this journey he came across some of the associates and close relatives or heirs of this great revolutionary. It is through their account of the history could shape up the life and story of this respect-worthy radical leader of the people. The chapters of his dedication and bravery for the freedom of his motherland, as told by his daughter and other family members, were stunning.
The thought to introduce the new generation with the unbelievably great sacrifices made by the platoons of revolutionaries like Nana Patil to wage a passionate rebellion against the hegemony and exploitation of the British rule even while being constantly leading an underground life that first demanded them to stake their family life therefore proved to be a decisive reason for the making of this film. At present, the task of making a choice of shooting locations and choosing the star-cast of this film is underway at a rapid pace and this brightly burning chapter from the movement of Indian Struggle for Independence is expected to appear on screen soon.
