This October, Sony MAX2 brings to its viewers a special telecast of Waaris, a movie featuring an extremely special artist – Smita Patil. This 1988 blockbuster showcases one of Smita’s best performances and promises to make you fall in love with the talented actress all over again. Along with one of Smita Patil’s best performances, Raj Babbar, Amrita Singh and Amrish Puri add to the movie’s stellar cast. The action-packed family drama over inheritance that witnesses a series of murders will take viewers through emotions varying from jealousy, to greed, pride, and of course, true love. The film is set for a World Television Premiere on 1st October at 7 PM only on Sony MAX2.

Highlights:

The film was adapted from the Punjabi novel Kaara — Hatthi by Sohan Singh Hans

Actress Rekha dubbed the lines for late actress Smita Patil who died before the film’s release.

Smita Patil won the Best Actress trophy at the 2nd Star & Style-Lux Awards.

Waaris depicts the aftermath of an aging father writing a will that favors one out of two of his children. When Shravan, played by Raj Babbar, is killed by his relatives as a means to usurp his inherited land, Paro, played by Smita Patil is seen chalking out and executing an unexpected plan to help save the land that rightfully belonged to Shravan. Smita Patil’s exceptional performance as Paro has lived on as a fond memory of all the viewers who watched the movie back in the 80s.

Directed by Ravindra Peepat, the film brings alive family disputes in the best way possible. From the script, to music, to casting, to picturisation, each element of the film is immaculate.  The film is made of exciting twists and turns and the engaging performances successfully keep the viewers on their feet.
