To inspire India’s future generation, Nickelodeon, the No. 1 kids entertainment channel, has announced an annual property that will identify unusual vocations most kids want to pick up and give them a chance to pursue that exciting passion and kickstart their dreams into reality!
This year, after a poll was conducted on www.nickindia.com, it was revealed that India’s kids want to be Astronauts! Nickelodeon through its Young Astronauts programme, will give deserving kids the opportunity to explore the world of space sciences at NASA, USA! This out-of-the-world initiative aims to get the smartest kids in India to compete with each other where the best kids get their ultimate ticket to their dreams: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit NASA!
To participate, kids have to log on to www.nickindia.com and write their statement of purpose of 150 words on ‘I want to be an astronaut because …’ Based on their entries, Nickelodeon will have an expert panel of judges who will go through every entry to pick the best set of kids to go for a space programme at NASA. While at NASA, the kids will get a chance to meet a real life astronaut, construct their very own rocket and launch it, be on a simulation ride in a mock up space shuttle and lots more.
To bring the space experience to life, Nickelodeon is setting up Discovery Domes, the one-of-a-kind mobile planetariums, in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore & Chennai as part of the outreach program of the NASA Magnetospheric Multi-scale Mission (MMS)! Kids all over will be able to get a 360 degree experience of the greatest astronomical films along with their favourite Nicktoons. The shows will cover exciting & educational content like asteroids, the black hole and mysteries of the universe to name a few. Ms. Asha Sundararajan of Discovery Dome India and specially flown down from Houston Dr. Patricia H. Reiff – 2 esteemed academic personalities from the field of astronomy, certified by NASA, are conceivers of Discovery Dome will be present across centres.
Young Astronauts will be carried out through a multi-platform campaign that would extensively reach out to millions of kids all over India, no matter where they are. Nickelodeon will also solicit entries from thousands of kids by conducting a School Contact Program across Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi.
The programme will also be given wings through a social media campaign on facebook.com/nickindia. Loads of information on space sciences by experts on topics like how to make a telescope and important astronomical dates will be shared.
