Charlotte Moraga pays tribute to Tagore, honoring her Kathak Guru

Critically acclaimed Kathak artiste Charlotte Moraga, In keeping with the dedication to the memory of a beloved Kathak guru, Charlotte will be honoring the guru shisya parampara through her kathak performance. In honor, of the guru shisya parampara she will be performing in nine and half matra taal for the first time, a difficult rhythmic cycle. 

Paying further tribute to Rabindranath Tagore’s she ill be performing  the ‘Thimiro obogunthone’.

She performed this song for the first time this year in Houston Texas at 150th anniversary Tagore Festival to a stunned and appreciative audience. 

For nineteen years Ms.Moraga has been immersed in the Kathak tradition.  She was first introduced to Kathak at San Francisco State University where her guru, Pandit Das, established the first accredited kathak course in the US.  She continued to study in the guru shisya parampara with him after leaving University and has performed extensively around the world with the Chitresh Das Dance Company and as a solo artist.  She is currently the director of the Chhandam Youth Dance Company, an elite pre-professional performing group associated with the Chhandam School of Kathak Dance.
