Addressing the media at the Seminar cum Workshop by Grand Master Richard Bustillo, the legend and the senior most student of the late Bruce Lee, which was organized by Indian Ambassador of Martial Arts Chitah Yajness Shetty, the founder of JKD Global Sports federation, stated that though he had trained several students including Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee and Linda Lee Cadwell, he does not want to be put on a pedestal as a King. Mr Bustillo added that he does not make it a point to make his disciples bow down.
Grand Master Bustillo, who has visited several countries of the world like Mexico, Canada, Columbia, Tokyo, Osaka, Philippines, Germany, Frankfurt, Berlin, England, China and Romania to impart training in Martial Arts though he has his own academy called I.M.B Academy in California, said that he had met Bruce lee for the first time way back in 1964. “Bruce Lee went to Hong Kong in 1970 to make his movies but every time he came to Los Angeles, I used to make it a point to meet Bruce Lee till he died in 1973. It was almost 400 years ago that Martial Arts were discovered but Bruce Lee, who did not invent Martial Arts, was a genius who used to make it very realistic,” Richard Bustillo adds.
Richard states that Chitah Yajness , who has been promoting the Martial Arts in India since the last three decades and also worked with celebrities like Jackie Chan in Myth and Roger More in James Bond, apart from teaching techniques and skill to many a Bollywood actor including Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, besides pretty leading ladies like Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Sayali Bhagat on screen, had approached him last year itself to address his two day seminar on JKD (Jeet Kune Do), the first intercept method of martial arts but he could not come to India last year because his visa had expired.
“It has been a great experience training the one hundred odd kids who have gathered for the seminar from all over the country from different States”, quips Richard Bustillo, who is also known as Iron Dragon, because he is known for his discipline. Though he is 68 years old, he is fit as a fiddle, because, as he puts it succinctly, his mantra is to sweat it out at a gym every day for four hours, though he enjoys eating chocolates. “You are what you put in your body”, he reiterates.
