Anuraag Malhan’s film The Lovers will feature at HBO SAIFF New York, Broadway

Model-turned actor Anuraag Malhan, who debuted on TV with a show Sethji, feels there is much to explore when it comes to good content and interesting subjects in showbiz. And his research and hard work in looking for content-oriented subjects has finally brought fruit.

The actor has been deeply affected by the subject of misuse of dowry act 498A since it is much prevalent in the small towns and villages. In order, that audience comes to know about the misuse of the domestic violence act, Anuraag felt it necessary to bring more awareness about the subject to viewers. A few months back, Anuraag turned producer under the banner of AV3 Films with his partner jewellery designer-turned-producer Vandana Mordani and produced a film around the subject. The film titled The Lovers, revolves around Anirudh an Indian young guy whose life changes when his wife files a case against him under the act 498A, domestic violence. With hard-hitting and impressive performances, the film hit a jackpot when it recently got selected by the South Asian International Film Festival to be featured in their short films at New York, Broadway. The film stars Anuraag himself playing the lead, Shweta Prasad Basu and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles.

Ask the good-looking actor, who also sports a fit and well toned physique, about his short film and he says, “I am excited that my very first film as producer and actor is going to be part of such a coveted list of short films at the festival in New York on December 15. It is an interesting subject and not many know people know that many men become victims of this domestic violence act. When it comes to dowry people often feel that it is only the woman and her family who suffers. But in many towns, innocent young men who get married at an early age are often targeted under the misuse of dowry act. I am happy that we were able to execute the director’s vision of the project and put forth some really impressive performances.”

Anuraag is now focusing on making films and TV shows that touch upon such interesting subjects. Basically, someone who belongs to a Navy background, Anuraag underwent theatre training for two years in Delhi from Mask theatre and has attended several workshops under Alok Ulfat and Neeraj Kabi. He has played cricket for seven years for state Level and North Zone India under BCCI. He is also an advanced level scuba diver and he practices Muay Thai and martial arts. He says, “Martial arts and keeping fit is a passion and it feels great when you undergo strict fitness regimes. I love sports and enjoy exploring all kinds of sports across the world.”
