After banging Maharashtra State award ‘The Silence’ in Cannes

Nagraj Manjule The Silence a film on a true story is coming out with flying colours even before its release. Recently won Maharashtra state award and now braced for the Cannes festival of France.

“The Silence” bags the “Best Indian Film” award at the 8thBengaluru International Film Festival. “The Silence “has also participated in film festivals in Brazil, Czech Republic, Mumbai (MAMI), Delhi and Jaipur. At the Brasilia International Film Festival, “The Silence” was the first Indian film to be screened. Over the next few months “The Silence” will be traveling to Madrid, Singapore and Cameroon.

SMR produced “The Silence” is about young Chini who while traveling late at night in the local train witnesses an incident that forces her to face up to demons from her past. Based on a true story, the narrative revolves around a little girl growing up in poverty with her father in a rural area. When he’s unable to manage caring for her himself, he sends Chini to her uncle in a nearby town, where life-changing events occur. Blending past and present and with forceful drama, the film tackles crucial, taboo topics, tracing the recurring question of responsibility – or silence.

Nagraj Manjule and Kadambari Kadam have very important roles in the film. National Award winning Actress Anjali Patil is making her Marathi film debut. Raghuvir Yadav the famous face of the Hindi world would be seen in a powerful role. Television actress Mugdha Chaphekar and child actress Vedashree Mahajan are making their debuts.

Ashwini Sidwani, Arpan Bhukhnawala and Navneet Hullad Moradabadi are the producers of the film and Ashwini Sidwani has also written the story. Gajendra Ahire has also written the dialogues and screenplay of the film. Krishna Soren is the DOP and the editor is Mayur Hardas. The most amazing part of the film is its music; with fusion rock band Indian Ocean rock debuting in Marathi films.
