Vijay has been associated with Marathi and Hindi theater and films, and the advertising industry for last 28 years as an actor and director. His very first feature film as a producer and director EK UNAD DIWAS received critical acclaim. As a director his subsequent movies have performed very well at the box office. His creativity and skills as a director have resulted in him being one of the busiest and most successful directors in the Marathi film industry, the list of his awards as an actor and director is endless. Till date he has directed 7 and produced 3 Marathi films.
In Bollywood he debuted with TEZAB as an actor. Now he is debuting as director with Horizon’s Films Pvt Ltd’s film RIWAYAT. Talking to GLAMGOLD he said, “I know Dr. Sanjay Patole since 20 years. When they asked me to direct a serious film like RIWAYAT, I could not believe it. But they had faith in me. I am thankful to my producers to trust me.”
Vijay has image of comedy actor. So how he dealt with serious subject? “I am doing theater since 30 years. As an actor-director I have executed different subjects. Also did experimental plays. So it was not difficult for me to justice a serious film. Before the shoot I did research also on how blood a new born baby have, quantity of plasma etc. I have shown reality as close as possible.”
About the story he said, “RIWAYAT deals with female foeticide. The story revolves around Anita and Radha. It shows Anita’s fight against injustice of aborting her baby girl. I am very much happy with my film. Also the film has received good reviews in International Film Festivals.”
When asked why he did not act in the film Vijay explains, “See this is my first Hindi film as director. Hence I was little nervous. Producers have told me to play the character that Aditya Lakhia has played in the film. But I decided to direct only. My film, my story is bigger and important.”
